Blackle

It's seems here at Ads Are Boring HQ we have been unknowingly doing our bit for the enviroment. We both recycle and i turn the light off at work after i have had a wee, but i had never thought about how much energy we would be saving having a black blog.

It turns out that if google had a black page instead of a white page it would save, according to calculations, 750 mega watts/hour per year.

Well they were told and in response to this Google has created a black version of its search engine, called BLACKLE with the exact same functions as the white version, but with lower energy consumption.

Now we can all search for porn and do our bit at the same time.

Thank you Google.

UPDATE: Just seen that it was created by heap media but it's powered by Google.

Yes, there are several things going on with blackle, but people tend to forget that there is more need of user interactivity then the stupid blackle itself.
Now the age is of VIDEOS users are not going to shift from google to blackle just like that. There is a site named http://www.yaarii.com that gives the option to search videos as well as as the regular web search. I think I would bookmark this site , because it gives the option to see any video in the same page without moving your ass!

Wow, when will the missinformation end. First of all, Google didn't create Blackle, and Secondly, Blackle does not save energy. In fact it uses more power on an LCD Monitor. We pulled out a watt meter and tested it. You can see the results here: http://cableorganizer.com/electricity-power-meter/

So let's help stop this myth. Please correct the blog post and tell people to not use Blackle. It's bad for the world.

There are around 25 different versions of “black google” online. The best one I’ve found is www.cleanblack.com. Cleanblack is the only version that allows you to change the text colors of the google search results. Try it yourself by going to www.cleanblack.com/theme/
